Weekend Fun

We had a fun weekend at our house.
Sammi and Daddy went on a Daddy-Daughter campout with our ward -- they had a great time. It was Sammi's first time camping! (She has slept in a tent before.) After camping, Daddy took Sammi to a shooting range, to learn how to shoot at a target. He took Daniel out target-shooting, after Scout-camp, a few weeks ago, and Dan loved it. Sammi was not as thrilled about it -- but she did it, to humor her daddy.

Sammi making Smores. Yum!

While Daddy and Sammi were away, I got to play with the boys. We went to the store to get diapers, since I realized I had only 2 left for the night (not enough!). After the trip to the store we went to a park, we played Mario-Kart, and watched Racing Stripes.
This was us just hanging out. Boys are funny. I like boys.
I LOVE my boys!
On Saturday, after Sammi and Daddy got home, we took the kids to the pool. They all came home with lovely sunburns. (Yes, they had sunscreen on, but they missed a few spots!) Poor things! Sammi has three different colors on her arms now . . .

Daniel just turned another shade of brown (he has his daddy's skin).
Poor William got the worst of it. He has my ultra-fair skin. He is smiling now, but he was NOT smiling last night. It hurt! Lots of Aloe.

The many shades of skin
For Father's day, Daddy wanted a nap . . .
We had a lot of time together this weekend, it was nice. Really nice. We love having daddy around so much. He was the Young Men's President (at church) before we moved, and he often had something going on during weekends. We have just been loving having him with us!
He is such a fantastic guy! We love Daddy!

And just because he is cute . . . Henry.
He is getting nice and chubby.
 Angel baby

We all love to cuddle him.

He is just right for snuggles . . .
Hooray for fun weekends!
Tonight . . . Root Beer judging contest.
(Determining our favorite Root Beer -- using blindfolds.)
Oh yeah.

I Dreamed a Dream

I dream. A lot.
Sometimes my dreams are random and weird: Running from dinosaurs, flying like Superman over the mountains, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, standing in front of my high school locker and I can't remember the combination (that one happens repeatedly?). Anyway, I dream about the "usual" while my eyes are closed . . . and I think nothing of it, most of the time.

But last night was different. It did not feel random. It felt REAL. So real that I thought I should write it down, so I can remember it. I feel like my inadequate words are too primitive to describe the vision/dream, because most of my dream was experienced through intense feelings -- that cannot be explained -- but I still want to record it, even in simple form. And though it is fairly personal, I feel prompted to share it, and so . . . I will.

I was standing in a hospital room. I felt good and whole, not injured or broken. I was not sure why I was there. I was surrounded by medical equipment, and it all felt very familiar -- like it was a hospital I had been to before. I was there, but I was confused. And then the doctor came in. He asked me if I was ready for the procedure. I told him, "No, but let's do it anyway." Still not knowing what was going on, I followed him into the operating room -- which strongly resembled the room that Henry was recently in -- except it was not Henry who was being operated on, it was me.

I was lying down on the hospital bed, plugged into medical equipment, and the doctor asked me to count to 10, so I obeyed. I made it to "4" and the next thing I knew . . . I was in another place. Another world.

The first thing I noticed was that I felt amazing. I felt light and weightless, and extraordinarily graceful. I was dressed in white, and I was beautiful. I was glowing, radiant, and light seemed to illuminate from my skin. It was a me I had never seen before, and certainly a me I had never felt before. I was free. I was pure. I was angelic.
I looked around and saw that I was in the most beautiful garden. I was standing in the middle of a huge grassy area, but along the edge of the circle of grass were trees and flowers of every size and color. The sun was glowing through marshmallow-like clouds, the air temperature was perfect, and the floral smell was overwhelmingly intoxicating.
I was so happy and so free, I began to dance. My flowing white dress was swooshing around me as I began twirling -- like Julie Andrews in the beginning of The Sound of Music. My hair was long and glorious and shimmering in the sunlight. I felt so free, so alive, so full of joy . . . a feeling beyond anything I have ever experienced in this life.

My mind was not cluttered. I felt strangely calm, and peaceful. There were no distractions, or the feeling of being rushed. I was not worried, or scared, or tempted. I was just me -- without any imperfection. Me. A beautiful, angelic, glorious, perfect, version of me. The me I wish I could be.

And then I realized, as I was spinning around freely . . . I was in Heaven.
I saw it in my sleeping-mind, as clear as any vision I have seen in the wake of day. I felt what Heaven would feel like. I experienced myself being there. I saw who I would be, who I could be. I felt the freedom that exists in the world beyond. I felt more alive than I have ever felt. I felt like I was home. Like I had finally reached that place of, "I'll be happy when." I did not want to leave. I was so content. I was perfectly free.

And then . . . I woke-up.

I felt heavy again. I could feel every ounce of my body pressing down on me -- like gravity was my enemy. All of my imperfections were still intact, and I was keenly aware of them. I was covered in milk that had leaked all over me in the night. I was having hot-and-cold chills, a sharp pain in my side, and Henry was begging me to feed him. My flowing-white dress was no where to be seen, and I certainly did not feel like dancing. (Curling-up in the fetal position sounds about right.)

I was back in reality and I felt it. My freedom was gone. Back to the earthly-grindstone for me.

I was left to ponder the Heavenly vision I had just beheld. My mind was fuzzy in the deep of the night, but I knew my dream was more than a dream. I was allowed to see and feel Heaven, for a very short while. I knew before in theory, but now I know for certain -- there is a place so beautiful and miraculous to behold, that I did not want to come back. I know that this life, with all it's trials, sorrows, pain, and adversity, is just a very short time -- in the Eternal scheme of things -- it is a small stepping stone to freedom. True freedom. If we are true and faithful, there is a place that holds joy beyond anything that you, or I, have ever experienced.

I was allowed to see, just for a moment . . .
There is dancing in Heaven.
And it is worth it -- all of it.
Never give up.

Sammi's Blog

Just a reminder to those invited to Sammi's blog, she posts often. I have attached a link on my Blog list, in case you forget her blog address. (I forgot it the first time!) It is listed under "Sammi's Blog" to make it easier for you. If you want to be invited, let me know. I need your e-mail.

P.S. She LOVES comments. :-)
(Don't we all??)

School Stuff

The school year is over and it is time to PLAY!
The kids had another great year, and I am so happy with their hard work and determination to do good. I am especially happy with their desire to read.  I was never a big reader (not novels, anyway, mostly Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley Twins -- yeah, I was a real brainiac!). But my children just LOVE a good book, especially fantasy novels, and that makes me thrilled! I really believe reading makes all the difference. They walked away with straight A's and Daniel was awarded the "Nerds Award" for his class. I've always wanted a nerd for a son. :-)  This next year is going to be Sammi's last year in elementary school. She is now officially a 6th grader! And then . . . Junior High. YIKES! William will also join the school-crew, he starts kindergarten in the Fall! WOW!

Here are some images from the school year . . .
(Sammi has a bunch, her teacher took a lot during the year)

Sammi loves the stage

Lucky boy!
Friends

Sammi had a fun year of basketball. There was one game she made 4 baskets! (That's a lot for 5th grade b-ball.) She just kept stealing the ball from the other team -- it was awesome. She was ON FIRE! Can't wait til next year!

First Day of School -- 3rd grade
Here is my nerd award boy . . . Go DAN!

Daniel also loves the stage

Now it is time to PARTY!
(And read, of course.)

I love having my kids home for the Summer.
They are mine, ALL MINE!!

(I might share them with Grandma, too . . . if she is lucky.) :-)

German Pancakes

I LOVE German Pancakes.

They are a really simple breakfast, especially for Summer mornings. You can tell it is not really healthy just by looking at it -- so it is a sometimes food. I highly recommend adding fruit, like strawberries, on top. (That makes it healthy, right?)
:-) Yum, yum!
I also discovered that you can add different flavors of Coffee-mate to things like German Pancakes and French Toast (add to the batter) for a little different flavor. Don't pour in too much, but a little can be yummy. I ran out of milk and had to use the powdered kind (which I think tastes nasty), so I added a little vanilla-carmel Coffee-mate to the batter, and it turned out really good. (Pancakes pictured above.) The kids LOVED it. I have even put Coffee-mate in brownies, and that was yummy, too. (The coconut kind, my favorite!) I have never tried some of the more exotic flavors . . . maybe around Christmas I'll have to try adding Eggnog or Pumpkin Spice. (Why am I thinking about Christmas today?) Weird?

Note: I do not drink coffee. I am Mormon. My kids freaked-out the first time I brought Coffee-mate in the house. Can't they call it Hot-Chocolate-mate, or something?? :-)

Note 2: Breastfeeding makes me want sugar, a lot. Why is that? I know, I know, hormones. But why can't I crave broccoli, or asparagus?

German Pancake Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

Directions

Place the eggs, milk, flour and salt in a blender; cover and process until smooth. Pour the butter into an ungreased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dish; add the batter. Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes.

*If you don't have a blender you can mix it by hand

Try them! They are fun!

And EASY!

To Make you Feel my Love

I am just dying to sing, it has been over 9 months!
I need to practice, practice, practice!
(So you get to be a part of it.) :-)

This song became a little lullaby for Henry . . .

(Thanks Rachelle for reminding me about this song!)

Why I Stay Home

Many people think I am anti-social.

Not so.

The reality is, there are so many great things to do at home . . .

Why would I ever leave?

Blahhhh . . .

 This is what happened . . .
when I switched Henry from Similac to Enfamil.
Needless to say, Similac wins as his formula of choice.
(He gets one bottle before bed to "top him off".)
 Ahhhh . . . much better now.

My First Run

Running.
I went for my very first run after giving birth 6 weeks ago. (Can you believe it has been that long already?) Running felt . . . interesting. Of course, I would not call what I do "running". Not hardly. More like barely lifting my knees. (Think of a running hippo.) But I am moving, and that is what counts, right? My first day I went a little too far. I am used to going out for pretty long distances. I went 6 miles. (I am really bad with going farther than planned.) I did not run the whole way, I walked mostly. It just felt so good to be out and to move my jiggly body.

Now I have the kids with me for the summer. ALL OF THEM. They are my running buddies. The kids lace up their shoes, I put on my super-duper sports bra, I feed Henry one last time before setting out, and then we load Henry in the stroller (I bring the double in case William gets tired), and we set out on our journey. I have reduced our mileage to 4 miles per day (for now). When I get faster, the kids will get to ride their bikes along side me, I am too slow right now.

The kids do amazing. They can run way longer and faster than me! Today I even had Sammi push the stroller so I could move both arms -- I LOVE having older kids!
It has been good for them, too. I have seen them getting stronger after just 3 days.

My journey has begun.

Wish me luck in reclaiming my health. I have a long road ahead (a TON of hard work) . . . but I do love a good challenge. :-)

The hardest part is putting on the running shoes . . . then it is a piece of cake. (Ha!)

Just keep running, just keep running, just keep running . . .

Taking a breather (waiting for me to catch-up!)
I love the view on my trail, right outside my front door!

There are tons of Weeping Willows -- my favorite!
It is a beautiful world out there, I love to soak it in
 Here's to Health!
(And happiness!)

Goodbye Hippo-ness!

Kid History Night

 KID HISTORY ROCKS!
That was what I heard when the kids ran in the door Saturday night.
They had an awesome night watching the new episode 9. They also did bloopers, kid history jeopardy (Sammi was so excited she got to answer a question), and they got their pictures taken with them. They estimated there were about 400-500 people there. Sammi was excited because Randy (The guy behind her) was pulling on her braids. Wish I could have gone . . . maybe next time!
The creators of kid history are bunch of brothers and I think one friend.
Charles and T-Diddy had a date night with the kids, and Rachelle and I got together at my house with the little ones.
Sammi took the pictures of the night.

Fun times!
